Snow Polo at Klosters
This year the Berenberg Snow Polo Tounament took place between the 20th - 23rd January 2011 in Klosters, the famous Swiss ski resort.
The annual event in Klosters is organised by the Alpine Snow Polo Club and each year teams from around the World are invited to battle it out for the overall honours and this year's illustrious guests included the Financial Times and Aston Martin,
Snow Polo? I hear you say…yes, it’s basically polo on ice/snow, played with a big plastic orange football and no, the horses do not slide everywhere, they have studded shoes!
With the success of the tournaments in St Moritz and Klosters, Snow Polo’s popularity is rising fast and has now become a staple on the après ski circuit.
The Hackett team was competing for the 5th time in a row, but had never secured an outright win and things didn't get off to the best start as we lost heavily, despite the valiant attempts by Henry Brett, team captain and 7 goaler.
Things didn't pick up the following evening in the second fixture and neither did the temperatures, on the contrary they plummeted, along with Hackett's chances of winning the event this year!
As Hackett battled out for the lower placings, the contrary was true of the new Aston Martin Team, who incidently were there partly due to my meddling. 1st time in and winners...not strictly playing the game if you ask me. I suppose the only way is up for next year!
The customary quality hospitality tent offered some respite to the proceedings on the polo pitch and with myself and Jeremy Hackett resplendant in 3 piece tweed suits and plus 4's the sartorial battle was well and truly won by Hackett
Everyone agrees what a great little event it is with fun, comaraderie, good polo and spectacular imagery.
