Aston Martin GTE Racing - 6 Hours of Silverstone
14 April
Aston Martin Racing (AMR) are celebrating an excellent start to their 2013 World championship campaign with victory in both GTE classes at the opening round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone.
The #97 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE driven by Darren Turner, Stefan Mücke and Bruno Senna started the race on pole and took a superb flag to flag victory. Despite a tricky section of the race when it rained, catching several drivers out, the car and drivers performed faultlessly to record an excellent victory.
Coming home a fine third in GTE Pro was the #99 car of Frédéric Makowiecki , Pedro Lamy and Paul Della Lana.
A successful day for AMR means a lot of cars and even more drivers names so pay attention! In the GTE Am class, it was the all-Danish crew of Allan Simonsen, Christoffer Nygaard and Kristian Poulsen in the #95 car that brought home to an excellent 3 lap victory for AMR, having initially run in formation behind the #96 of Stuart Hall, Jamie Campbell-Walter and Roald Goethe. Their Aston came home a strong fourth in GTE Am, only a minute behind the third placed Ferrari, having been in contention for a podium for much of the race.
John Gaw, Team Principal at Aston Martin Racing, added: “Today’s outcome was terrific. We got much more than we expected out of the first race of the season; we came here aiming to score points with all four cars. This certainly bodes well for the championship.
The next race in the World Endurance Championship takes place at Spa in Belgium on Saturday May 4thth.
