Aston Martin GTE Racing - Le Mans 24 Hour
22 - 23 June
This year marks the 90th year of the Le Mans 24 Hour race. The glamour of F1 racing has somewhat stolen the limelight away from this once pinnacle race, but still remains a firm favourite with what they term ‘true race fans’.
It takes place on the 8.5 mile and picturesque Circuit de la Sarthe and arguably the second most famous motor race in the world, after Monaco. The race attracts over 250,000 spectators over the weekend, with by far the biggest foreign contingent (80,000) turning this part of a French field into a small corner of Britain.
Its famous features roll off the tongue and are etched forever into every motorsport fan’s memory, Dunlop Bridge, Porsche Curves and the possibly the most famous straight in the world, the Mulsanne Straight. Once bitten by the race people vow to return year on year to meet up with new and old friends to soak up the unique atmosphere as well as…or even more than, the racing itself.
This is no sprint, like F1, but an endurance race of the highest calibre…and that’s just for the spectators!
