The Book
Introducing Mr Classic
Jeremy Hackett writes a regular column for the review section of the national newspaper 'The Independent on Sunday', which airs his views and observations on fashion and style in a light hearted manner.
It was suggested to him that it would be a good idea to compile a book of all the short stories and accompany it with photographs.
The publishers Thames and Hudson launched the book 'Mr Classic' in the Autumn of 2007 and this is how they described the book:
"A stylish book that offers right-thinking men everywhere a chance to smarten up their act. Classic English style and tailoring enjoys worldwide adulation, and rightly so.
Here, Jeremy Hackett, founder of the eponymous gentlemen's outfitters and style columnist, takes us on a Grand Tour of an appealing world of Bentleys and polo, bicycles and picnics, bow ties and Sussex Spaniels, top hats and bespoke luggage.
Brimming with photographs, anecdotes and observations as sharp as his suits - as well as more than a glancing nostalgia for an age when a chap really knew how to dress - this is a book for those who appreciate the finer things in life, and for would-be dandies everywhere.
The book juxtaposes over forty of Mr Classic's newspaper columns with Garda Tang's luscious, large-format photographs of Hackett's classic English clothing and top-drawer tailoring.
It offers invaluable advice on sartorial codes in an age less accustomed to making an effort: why plus twos beat plus fours; the ideal length of sock; and how to get that bow tie looking 'just so'."
