POLO

Often quoted as the sport ‘played’ by kings, Hackett’s association with polo is well known and immortalised in the now, iconic Hackett Polo Shirt.

From humble beginnings of providing shirts for the Guard's Polo Team, Hackett has made a welcome return to the polo field by becoming the sponsor of the British Army Polo Team and the newly entitled Hackett Rundle Cup.

The Hackett Rundle Cup

Hackett’s sponsorship of certain events during the Sporting and Social Calendar offers the chance to really show the brand off in the right environment and the Hackett Rundle Cup is a prime case in point.

The traditional match between the Army and Navy on the polo field has, over the years produced some bruising encounters, not to mention broken bones, as, unlike on the battlefield, there is no love lost on the polo field.

Despite its genuine reputability in the polo world, this event does not suffer from any delusions and does not aim to compete with the so-called, glamour and celeb infested Cartier and Queen’s Cups, but what it does have bundles of is…honesty and integrity. It all conspires to make it a great day out for all the family in a truly British setting, with an emphasis on fun, relaxation and just the right amount of military organisation.

This year is again saw a rustic, but pleasant lunch followed by speeches from the event organiser Mark Cann and of course Mr Jeremy Hackett, who thanked all the right people with the odd polo joke thrown in for good measure. Then everybody made their way, slowly to the grandstand to watch some polo.

Thiis year's event was blighted by an even more traditional British Summer aspect...it chucked it down!, brollies and plastic macs became de rigour as people braved the elements to watch the matches.

The Navy team were no match for the Army as they fielded a higher handicapped team in order not to repeat the defeat of last year. And so it was to be with the Army...sponsored by Hackett, don’t forget, coming out clear winners at 7 – 2 ½ .

Despite the rain much fun was had by all  and who knows next year we might get the sunshine back

The Hackett Inter-Regimental Cup, arguably the oldest continually contested trophy in the World (a bold claim by Mr Cann of the CSPA) took place at the Guards Club the day after the Rundle Cup. A thoroughly pleasant day with the Royal Wessex Yeomanry battling it out with the Household Cavalry (complete with Prince Harry) to no avail, as the Cavalry reclaimed the trophy they lost last year to the same opponents.

The team will be taking part in the prestigious Major Generals Cup in the first week of December at the Guards Polo Club, so if you have a spare Sunday be sure to go and check them out, it's a great day out.
