Lunching in London

Hackett Recommends:

The art of good dining shouldn’t just be saved for suppertime, a lunch date deserves every bit as much courtesy as that of an evening meal. With that in mind, we bring you our top three London spots for a nibble at noon.

Soho: Café Monico

If you’re looking to really impress a lunchtime companion, this is where to take them. French-Italian fusion in the heart of Shaftesbury Avenue, this stylish eatery’s look and feel is inspired by the original Café Monico, established way back in 1877. Offering shellfish, pasta, salami, grilled meats and fish all in a traditional brasserie setting, trying one of their classically made cocktails is also a lunchtime must.

Portobello: Pizza East

Spread over two floors of a restored Georgian pub in the middle of Portobello Market, this beautiful building is home to Notting Hill’s Pizza East. Serving everything from wood oven pizzas to Italian cured meats and cheeses, we highly recommend grabbing a spot in their upstairs space, there you’ll find a laid-back dining room and wonderfully green terrace – a true escape from it all.

Mayfair: The Colony Grill

A place in which you’ll want to linger, the decedent Colony sits in the very heart of Mayfair and exudes old-world glamour. Inspired by the sophisticated grill rooms that first became popular in America and London in the 1920s, this venue is something special. Signature lunch dishes include New York hot dogs, omelettes, chicken pot pie and even do-it yourself ice cream sundaes for those searching for something sweet.
